Santorini – Island of the Gods

Greek islands are just stunning. Clean bright blue sea, vulcanos, nature and the architecture are something what every person should see.
Santorini is essentially what remains after an enormous volcanic eruption that destroyed the earliest settlements on a formerly single island, and created the current geological caldera. A giant central, rectangular lagoon, which measures about 12 by 7 km, is surrounded by 300 m high, steep cliffs on three sides (source: Wikipedia).
We approached the island with the boat. Even the first look from distance on this island was mesmerizing. The whole island is volcanic rest, and on the top and inside those mountains are unusual white houses with blue rooftops. In combination with the see colors and the sky above it takes your breath away.
On the coast on the side, we came from, the tourists are welcomed from the hosts. You can get free information on what places to visit, where to eat, where and how to reach different places in Santorini. You have 2 possibilities to go to the city – one is with pathway where you can walk or you can climb those paths on the donkey (children love this). The other option is funicular. Funicular costs 00,00 pro Person, and we decided for this option. The ride was also wow. The higher you come, more of the island and the islands in the area you see.
And we are officially in Santorini. The first contact after stepping out of the funicular were shops. Small shops with souvenirs – postcards, jewelry, clothes etc. Keep in mind, when you come to Santorini – do not buy in those first shops, they have double prices than the shops only 100m away. The residents of Santorini, from my experience, were not very friendly with the tourists – the sellers and the waiters in
Santorini gave me feeling as they are not in the mood to work. They pretty much had difficulties with answering your questions, but sure had no difficulties with taking the money.

The streets, or better to say paths, are pretty steeply. If you decide to visit Santorini during the season, between May and September, the island will be full of tourists, maybe even overcrowded. Where ever you are, and wherever you look, the view is stunning and the colors are mesmerizing. In whichever direction you decide to go, you decided good, because everything there is worth of seeing.
